Profile

I studied my elementary school in Almadinah city and continued my secondary school at Jeddah Secondary School, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I joined Faculty of Science, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1978 for my Bachelor degree where I graduated with a very good grade in 1984 majoring in Microbiology. I pursued my graduate studies to obtain M.Sc. degree after joining Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, KAU, Jeddah as a demonstrator. Then I was nominated for a scholarship to study for PhD degree abroad. I obtained my PhD degree in 1997 from Strathclyde University, United Kingdom. On return, I joined the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, KAU, Jeddah as Assistant Professor until 2006 where I was promoted to Associate Professor in Food Microbiology till now.

Research Interests

My research interests are mainly in the field of food microbiology and related fields such as food safety and hygiene - food quality – food contaminants such as mycotoxins and pesticides residues. Also of my research interests are studying the antimicrobial activities of some food and natural products such as honey, spices and herbs especially on some foodborne pathogens.

Scientific interests

Of my scientific interests are establishment of a scientific unit in the University which deals with studies on identification and classification, isolation, characterization, and maintenance of different strains of microorganisms especially of scientific and economical importance. Establishment of a center for research from various aspects on honey and honey products is of my scientific interests as well.
